Time: 7:30p.m, Westwood Elementary School There were approximately 50 residents in attendance. Alderman George Laking opened the meeting and welcomed the residents to the meeting and indicated that the reason for czlling the meeting was to receive input from the residents in regard to the proposed development of Westwood Park. The Recreation Director explained the proposed pians for the park. Basically the plan involved the construction of an adventure playground (for pre-school and school age children), a practice wall for tennis, clearing out the brush and planting grass areas, also placing picnic benches in the immediate area around the tennis courts. The residents identified the following points:- 1, Speeding of cars around park area; fear of children being hit. 2. The residents wish to have the cement abutment on the road allowance removed, due to the fact that on occasions children have been injured at the river and emergency vehicles have been unable to go down to the river edge, 3. They would like to see the park remain in as natural a state as possible with very little development. , A buffer be provided between the hones and the park. That better seating be provided in the tennis courts. That parking be restricted to one side only, on Patricia Avenue.” Thr garbage cans be placed in the park. 4, 5. : 6. That'"NO PARKING" signs be erected by the entrance -to the park. 74 8. 9. 10. No picnic tables. Te was very evident that the residents did not want:- a) A practice wall for tennis. b) An adventure playground. However, the residents did want:~ a) The trails upgraded. b) ‘Partial development around the tennis courts, with grass etc. They did express concern with teenagers drinking at the river and the broken bottles that were left. The residents were told that a revised Plan would be presented to Council oa July 10, 1978. The meeting concluded at 9:30p.m.
