This year’s theme is ‘‘For the Family’’, so everything is family-oriented. Everybody will enjoy our complete list of entertain- ment, We've highlighted it this year with Laurie Thain, a local girl who made a big mark in the music industry. We were able to get her with help from Alcan Smelters and Air B.C, Besides Lauric, we have much more great entertainment for the whole family. There is bluegrass, jazz, gentle rock n roll, story telling, Spirit of the Mountain Dancers, and also a dance on Saturday night hosted by Kingfish. As always, we have a lineup of trades and educa- tional booths, These booths are interlaced with conces-' sions and rides for the kids. The Venturers will be hav- ing a babysitting service, so parents can have some free time if they choose. As you pass through the booths you will come to the auto exhibits and heavy equip- ment exhibits. Take in the logger sports. It’s fun for everyone. Our local competitors compete with people from ail around the world. We have a climbing pole this year and you will have to be there to see who goes up it Check out the exhibit hall. You will be amazed at how many dif- ferent exhibits we can get in one hall. There is everything from photography to baking contests. There’s all kinds of arts and crafts and also a beer-and-wine tasting SERA EE aA tl rs rae Mice s7.3 . A et iy competition. Family spirit the focus for this year’s fall fair THIS YEAR’S fall fair will see some changes from previous years, say organizers. “We're strictly family-oriented this year. That's our theme,’’ says Doug Kirby, fair president. Kirby says the entertainment will be geared more to the entire family, with the rock-bands of previous years replaced with blue grass, country and jazz bands. Parents can also drop off their children at a babysitting service run by the Venturers. The fair will also have a more educational ‘and multicultural slant than in the past. ' We're stressing information booths this year,!?. says Kirby. . The 4H ‘club, he* says, bis, already iv ae) organized an‘information campaign for the’ fair, to teach people about the club. The fair will also be host to the Spirit of the Mountain dancers and Kirby is hoping Canadian Canadian Tire has a good selection of products to get your garden and home ready for winter. Superb veggies expected WHETHER YOU have a little row of car- rots and peas or a varitable vegetable comucopia in your backyard, the fall fair is ihe place to show off your stuff. “'This year is a really good year for vege-. lables,’’ says vice-president Martina Koch. She says people were already asking about entering the competitions weeks be- fore the deadline, There are 16 different divisions of non- livestock competition this year, some with dozens of different classes to compete in. Prizes range from ribbons to small cash awards to gift certificates for various businesses. Classes include vegetables, flowers, baked goods and aris and crafts, as well as children’s competitions. Odds are that if you make it or grow it _ there’s a category for it. Quilts, asparagus, jewelry, jelly rolls, wine, petunias and stuffed dolls all have a place. “The kids are hard at work for their edu- cational stuff for displays,” says Koch.
