The Eurocan Invitational was the club’s last- regional meet of the season and they came home with some added provincial qualifying limes, a number of medals and pool records to boot. Tristan Brown, 14, picked up four pool records includ- ing the 200 frec, the 100 fly, the 100 free and the 50 free. “Last year Tristan was going for the 50 free record and he just missed it,”” says coach Mike Carlyle. ‘This year was sweet revenge.”’ Marina Checkley also look two records in the 100 aid 200 metre backstroke, where. she swam against Dylan Evans ~~ who broke the boys 200 metre record. “Dylan and Marina have a nice litle rivalry going,” Carlyle says. “It's fun and it gives them an extra push. We really didn’t expect them to do so well in the Seamen on fire middle of hard training.” Julie Vanderlee, 16, also broke two records — in the 200 fly and 200 free. Men’s rugby in the north- west has stepped up a notch and the Northen, usually sitting all alone atop the league standings, now find themselves neck and neck with the revitalized Prince Rupert Seamen. The Northmen have won the orthwestern league championships 13 of the past 15 years. And at this point in the season, they normally expect to be well on their way to another trip to the provincial finals. But they aren’t packing their bags yet, “‘Rupert’s done a really, really good job of rebuilding their club,’’ says Northman David Hull. ‘‘Their British coaches have given them quite a lift. This will be an exciting finish to the sea- Ba SON, Score Board Terrace Youth Soccer Association The Seamen have prevailed at both of the last two meetings with Terrace. The June 14 match proved to be quite a scrappy affair, with tempers flaring at times aud blows being exchanged. Leon Schute scored two tries for the Northmen, but the hometeam couldn’t hold back the visitors who prevailed 24-14. Both teams now sport records of six wins, three losses atid one tie. This past weekend’s match up be- tween the Northmen and Camels was canceled due to ‘a lack of Smithers players. The interclub game was also canceled, Terrace and Rupert are next set to square off July 19, although the schedule may be altered.
