Mayor Campbell thanked Mr. Godfrey for his presentation, and the latter then left the meeting. CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: SFHU re sewer From Dr. J. Blatherwick, Director, Simon Fraser Health Unit, October connect :lons- portable ‘classrooms 12th, 1976, advising that students housed in portable classrooms at the following schools are required to use washroom facilities in the main school building even though washrooms are provided in the portable units: Hazel Trembath Elementary James Park Elementary Westwood Elementary Kilmer Elementary and as this could be considered an inconvenience to the students, particularly during inclement weather, the washrooms in these units should be counected if they are to be used on a long-term basis; however, if the cost of connecting to the sanitary sewers is prohibitive and if these classrooms are to be used for a short duration only, then the present arrangement can be continued. A discussion ensued, and Alderman Keryluk stated he agreed with the view expressed by Dr. Blatherwick in his letter; however, Alderman Laking pointed out that any other building in the City would be made to hook up and have proper washroom facilities. Alderman Thompson inquired as to the cost for hook-up of washrooms in the units, and the City Engineer advised that the City's cost would be relatively minor compared with that of the School District in extending the service from the property line to the unit. Alderman Ranger pointed out that often portable units are quite far removed from the main school building, and should be situated closer to cut down on costs. Alderman Keryluk stated he felt the recommendation in Dr. Blatherwick's letter-to connect washrooms only in those units that will be used on a long-term basis, be accepted; however, Alderman Traboulay stated he felt the City skould not get involved in a matter which should be between the Health Unit and the School Board. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the letter from Dr. J. Blatherwick, Director, Simon Fraser Health Unit, October 12th, 1976, suggesting that only the washrooms in portable classrooms that are to be used on a long-term basis be connected to sani- tary sewers, be tabled pending further information and clarification from
