“Criminal Charges’ Vo Vote tion with the organized em- ployers. There has been no consultation, as far as we are aware, with elected officials of the trade union movement. “We also protest vigorously your reference to recent de- monstrations as being due to “a handful of pork-chopping labour agitators.” The evi- dence available to you will prove that the members of the unions concerned spon- taneously demanded a public protest against the attempted perversion of law enforce- ment by employers to deprive them of established rights. “You are requested to re- tract or amend your state- ment in this respect as it can only indicate to trade union members that, as Attorney- General, you are instituting public action with a distinct bias against trade unions. Your statement does not im- prove the present climate. “If you desire a better cli- mate for industrial relations in this province, we earnestly request that you exercise your powers as the chief law enforcement officer of the Crown in this province to halt the prosecution of trade un- ion members for unlawful as- sembly. “We direct your attention to the enclosed copy of a resolution presented to B.C. The campaign is seen by them as an opportunity to register their protest against anti-labour laws of the Social Credit Government. Attor- ney-General Bonner is one of the members of the Legisla- ture elected in the riding. Candidate Antony Holland has accepted the challenge of his - political opponents and is fighting the campaign with labour’s rights as one of the major issues. He is demanding an impartial probe into the causes of labour unrest, and the repeal of restrictive la- bour legislation. He has also urged immediate action to repair the breakdown in conciliation and arbitration machinery. Since 1956, the riding has been predominantly Social Credit. In this by-election, the New Demo- cratic Party campaign workers are heroically building the best campaign organization yet seen in the constituency. George Kowbel, Local 1-217, IWA, is chief organ- izer of trade union support. Funds are urgently required to wage an effective campaign. Donations in support of the New Democratic Party candidate may be sent to the By-election Campaign Fund, New Democratic Party, 517 East Broadway, Vancouver. Now! POWER HOMELITE SG om _
