Two main events took place at Entre Lacs in the past weeks. First the “Semaine nationale de la francophonie” at the end of March was celebrated through several activities: a collective project, “the map of origins", which showed on a world map the franco- phone origin of all the school’s students. Each class also designed some street signs fo name the school rooms and hallways (the boys’ change room became “the boxers’ room” and the princi- pal’s office became “the torture room"). French songs were ce- lebrated and a colourful board was made with messages from students expressing one reason why they liked Entre Lacs school or speaking French. Reasons were quite eclectic: Lisa (gr.5) thinks e <= La voix des parents de Colombie-Britannique Clin doeil des communauteés- écoles «8 © FF eee HOS e688 FFF OHHH HEE HHH EHR HH EHH SD speaking French is useful for her younger sister not to understand the secrets she tells her older sister; Mélissa (gr.7) thinks going to a French school allowed her to meet her friends; and Daniéle (gr.4) is glad she is bilingual so she can speak in French to the goalie of the Penticton Vees... The school also organized a Science Fair to send the best projects to represent it at the District Science Fair. Five students were selec- ted fo go to the Regional Science Fair which took place at UBCO- Kelowna on April 11 and 12. Several of the school students were rewarded for their presentation boards and three won prizes for their science projects after strict judging. Fabyan Blomme won the Silver Medal (Gr.6) for his project “Sable Valable” (on how the size and quality of sand affects the filtration process). Gaélle Madevon (“Diner glacé” on how to monitor the temperature of the contents of a lunch box) and - for the second year in a row - Nicholas Ran- dall (“Volt pour le vent" on how to measure the energy produced by a home-made wind turbine) both won a Gold Medal (Gr.7 and 8 respectively). The gold medals winners will go to the National Science Fair, which this year takes place in Chicoutimi Québec, from May 13 to 21. Our congratulations to them and good luck for the final!
