Page 2 Library Tax Assessment 1983 cont. (4) THE- AUTOMATION PROJECT. FVRL staff are presently evaluating tenders re the automation project... It is. intended initially that twelve branches (including Port. Coquitlam) out of the twenty-two brances in the FVRL be automated. The effect of automation will not result. in widespread layoffs but will place a “ceiling on future staff growth combined with better service to our ’ patrons".” Although. the hoard has..not yet approved the method of payment for the automation system it is expected that funds will be obtained partly from revenue (there is $115,000 in the 1983 budget for this purpose) and. partly from reserves. - (5) ‘THE BOOK BUDGET 1983. The Book Budget. for 1983 has been set at $657,094 which represents 13.25% of the total budget. Even though this figure. is. somewhat low (we should be looking at 15% = 20% of total budget being spent on books each year), Port Coquitlam is expected to receive an overall increase of 4,500 ‘books this year bringing our total to approximatély 1.45 books per capita. Tf there are any questiong regarding the FVRL Budget, please do not. hesitate to ask, RECOMMENDATION: . - That Council approve. the. 1933 Library Tax Assessment Of $262,586, Respectfully submitted, Michael R.
