Minister Ministre Environment Canada Environnement Canada JUL 2 3 1973 Ottawa, Ontario. K1A 0H3 JUL -3 1973 Mr. R.A. Freeman, City Clerk, The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlan, British Columbia. Dear Mr. Freeman: This will acknowledge receipt of your letter of ™* Arinened May 30, 1973, transmitting the concern of the Municipal Council with regard to enforcement of the Migratory Birds Convention Act. Enforcement of that act was transferred to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police by Order-in-Council, in 1932. A special enforcement co-ordinator of the R.C.M.P. has been appointed for British Columbia and his function is to increase participation by local detachments of that agency. An organization is being established within the Canadian Wildlife Service to provide enforcement co-ordinators to undertake liaison between the R.C.M.P., Provincial Agencies and the Canadian Wildlife Service. No man-year has yet become available for such an appointment in British Columbia. “At present there are only seven (7) such co~ordinators for all of Canada. This shortfall in manpower has long been recognized and is keing remedied as quickly as positions can be made available. Thank you for your expression of cohcern. Yours sincerely, a Jack Davis.
