She was immediately re- cruited as lead vocalist. Mikaloff dropped out of the conservatory and One Ton was born, The band probably won't be playing any gigs in Terrace anytime soon, although Mikaloff hopes to come back for his high | school reunion. Old Terrace friends might find Mikaloff has changed not only in looks ° bul in accent — seven years in Quebec has left him sounding distinctly francophone. “Pm kind screwed now,” laughs Mikaloff. “When I speak French I have an English accent and when I speak English 1 have a French accent.” This summer, One Ton will play at a variety of festivals in Quebee and make plans for a cross-Ca- nada tour in September. Mikaloff will continue working on his music, reaching for new and inno- vative combinations of sound. I originally went be- cause a friend said it was fun, so | went along with her. I didn’t really. know many people but people were teally open and you make a lot of new friends. It’s something fun to do in the summer where you learn new things, meet new people. We did lots of stuff ta get us ready. We played theatre games like the In- terpretation game, and “Questions Only” game. Sometimes they pive us the first line and the last line and we have to fill in the rest of the story or we get an cbject and we have lo make up something about il. We have a Character Day where we dress up as someone or something and we also did some acting in the park. Some funny things that happened were when someone tock a tablet that you chew to make blocd in your mouth but the tablet was expired. They alsa passed around a roll of toilet paper and you had to take off some sheets. Some kids took sheets and sheets and then they had to tell lots of stories about themselves for all the sheets they had, One year the Queen’s necklace broke on stage and another time the newspaper a guy was read- ing was upside down, You have to get along with the other kids and re- member your lines. The theatre has a spe- cial costume roam and a make-up room. The first year ] did backstage make- up and lights. In the sec- ond year I played the Mir- tor on the Wall in a mod- em version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and last year I was a character, Mrs. Brown, in The Mad Breakfast, I like the end of the year performances because we get to show what we did and it’s fun. I like act- ing. It makes you a more open person. It helps make me more confident in other things I do.
