Bylaw No. 249 which gave the yassent of the owner-electorate for meithe borrowing of $15,000 to pur- ychase a new fire truck in 1961 hy was never carried through and j the monies were never borrowed. i In a new bylaw (No, 411) intro- R duced Tuesday evening in Council, N the outdated assent will be can- celled and the debentures ordered destroyed. THE HONOURABLE RAY WILLISTON, Minister of Lands, Forests, and Water Resources The daily arrival. of mail at my office usually is quite min affair, There is a great quantity and variety of it, A our “instant towns” spring up in those isolated locations. They haven't visited our ebulli- ent central and northern centres of which Prinse George is an out- standing example, nor have they travelled through our northern lands to breathe the air of prom- ise. Areas which once boomed in goid-rush days and then subsided into. backwater communities are being revitalized — but with a difference. This time they are being developed as permanent cen- tres of aur expanding economy, We are carefully harvesting and nurturing our forests io ensure a permanently renewable resource. We are bringing power to our iso- lated areas to serve the industries eager to move in. We are support- ing optimism with planned per- formance. ‘|For shame, New York! Reluctant British Columbians? ; It is possible our offending firm needs an educational ald or two — perhaps a subscription to the “Beautiful British Columbia Ma- gazine.” The 1986 spring issue would do for a start. Beginning with an article entitl- ed, “Background for the Centen- nial” which serves as an excellent watm-up on the subject of our province, the magazine goes on to a profusely illustrated article on travel by sea and land that spells out the ‘beauty and spirit of nor- thern British Columbia, and neigh- boring. Yukon and Alaska. We understand this spirit and judging by the mailing list for “Beautiful British Columbia”, so do readers all over the world — even in Mos- cow and Peking. So why not in New York? British Columbians reluctant to move to isolated areas?—The way our province is developing, it may not be too many years before there are no isolated areas to which they can move. But the most important thing is on the front. It’s that GMC nameplate that makes the difference. Not the plate itself of course, but what it represents. GMC has a reputation for Engineering Leadership. For instance: realizing most Handi- Vans would be city-operated and subject to road moisture and salt, GMC engineers started at the bottom.
