RECOMMENDATION =
It is recommended that the Municipal Council pass the following resolution:

Whereas the City of Port Coquitlam Official Community Plan was
adopted in June 19863; and

Whereas the growth of the City has exceeded that anticipated in the
City of Port Coquitlam Official Community Plan, 1986; and

Whereas a major update of the City of Port Coquitlam Official
Community Plan has become necessary to guide future growth of the
City;

Be it resolved that:

1. The Planning Department be instructed to immediately begin work
towards the rewriting of the City of Port Coquitlam Official
Community Plan; and

The Planning Department be authorized to submit an application to the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Recreation and Culture, for a
$40,000.00 grant under the "1991 Planning Grant Program", as a
contribution towards the first phase of the drafting of a new
Official Community Flan (background research, public consultation and

preliminary draft).

BACKGROUND:

The City of Port Coquitlam Official Community Plan was adopted by
Council in June 1986.

The Plan was due for a major review in 1988, however due to development
pressures this review did not take place.

The growth of the City since the Plan was originally drafted have
clearly exceeded the expectations of the Plan causing the obsolescence o:
Plan in relation to many areas of the City.
