June 9th, 1975 motion. Alderman Mabbett, seconder of the motion, stated he felt that when the subject property is being developed, the residents in that area should be made aware that a mobile home park is proposed for that sector of the City. NEW BUSINESS: Acting-Mayor re proposed N/S Fire Hall Alderman Keryluk stated he had several items to discuss with respect to May Day; however, the Acting-Mayor advised that a very important item had arisen regarding the proposed North Side fire hall that would take precedence for discussion at this time. The City Engineer then spoke to the subject of the proposed fire hall and referred to a recommendation of the Building & Protection Committee that plans for a single-storey fire hall be proceeded with and that the Council, after discussion, had decided that as a relatively small amount of extra funds was required, a fire hall with the second floor roughed in, should be constructed. The City Engineer stated that at that time preliminary estimates were $155,000.00 for a single~storey building and $185,000.00 for a two-storey (with the second storey not ready for occupancy, but roughed in for future completion), and that on the basis of Council's decision, he had directed the consultants to proceed with the design of a two-storey fire hall; however, on completion of the design it was found that tje estimated cost was $235,000.00 plus feez, and he advised he had directed the consultants to cease work at that point until the Building & Protection Committee had met again. The City Engineer stated that after the information had been presented at its June 3rd meeting the Committee then requested the consultants to prepare a design for a single-storey fire hall and upon completion thereof, the estimated cost was found to be $197,000.00, plus fees. The City Engineer pointed out that while these figures are a considerable increase over the preliminary estimates, they are in line with prices recently received by the District of North Vancouver for such a building. Alderman Laking inquired whether the building would be of metal or pre-cast concrete construction, and the City iingineer advised that it would be of a masonry- type construction. Alderman Laking inquired whether there would be a difference in the cost between masonry and metal, and the City Engineer advised that a metal building would almost certainly be less expensive - probably in the area of $10,000.00; however, the supply price of a metal prefabricated building does not include design, which would cost an addi~ tional 7%.
