ex RPO SETTER TET OTS chee a ee) ee enn -abtre rs , panes ere eprretr tse "roger —— FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD The Mail Bag Gardens, flowers deserve much better Dear Sir: Qn Sunday evening, Sept. 13, around 9 p.m., vandals struck once more at the Wil- low’s Communal Garden. Fortunately the young man and girl in- volved were surprised by the manager's husband arid quickly fled, but not before doing considerable damage. One 10-inch pumpkin was dropped over the fence and smashed as were two medium zucchini, Three medium-sized orange hub- bard squash survived intact and were recovered, If these raiders understood how much work goes into making a good garden, and how important ihis hobby is to some older citizens, they probably would try to find something productive to do. The same comment applies to those drunks (or degenerates) who destroy flow- ers in downtown planters. For those who labour to beautify Terrace, it must be a bit- ter disappointment to wilness such sense- less and wanton destruction. One can only conclude that those who - destroy public and private property feel they have no stake in the society of which they are a part. What a great pity! Floyd Dean, Terrace, B.C, Screwy phones Dear Sir: We, the innocent public, has a big prob- lem. Some years back the phone company came up with some great features, call dis- play, Star 69, and others. Now some brilliant person at the phone company came up with call blocking. I think it’s a wonderful thing if you are capable of blocking calls from a problem caller who repeatedly calls you home but, why is it that the innocent public can not use call display to find out who the psycho is? Some months ago this problem started in our home. I thought this was a rate thing until I started to talk about it with friends. Now it seems that these creeps are the ones in control of our phone lines. Numerous people I’vc talked to have the same com- plaint. T understand if you make a complaint to the phone company you can fill out a form, take it to the RCMP and then they will con- tact the phone company and go from there, I do not want to harass the parents of my young children’s friends, who call and are too shy to talk, but, ] should have the right to know who is phoning our home and i in- vading our privacy. 1 am frustrated, and not alone with this feeling, D. Middleton, Terrace, B.C, More market An open letter to city council: Re: the current Farmer's Market flap. I ain fascinated by Bob Goodvin’s novel idea of moving the funeral parlor to Greig. My counterproposal is to put it adjacent to city hall, once the fire department relocates. Think how convenient it would be for all Terracites to drop by — especially for those council members who tend to lose control of their emotions, and forget ta apologize to the truly injured party. Surely the reduced travel time would be best for all the taxpayers of Terrace, hence deserving of Rich McDaniel’s support as well. Jerry Reitman, Terrace, B.C. Just stop it Dear Sir: Come on, Terrace. Can’t we do better? The beautification society is doing such a wonderful job of giving us a garden setting, but along comes someone that scattered the flowers ali over the sidewalks. The city mowed the grass along the Streets and now we have thousands of pieces of garbage instead of a hundred or 50. Can’t we as good citizens use a trash tray? We have all those nice new garbage bins around town but I see no one can close the lids so the crows help scatter even more garbage around. Fast food take out packs and cups, cigarette packs, bottles, cans, and on and on. Have we no respect or pride in our city? I used to pick up garbage on my walks on the streets around my store but | said J wouldn't do it anymore after I retired. Yet I still have to at my new address. There is a law about. littering. Maybe heavy fines will provide a non-job person with employment? Betty Demmitt, Terrace, B.C. NOTICE area schools will be fertilized monthly.
