THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE DATE: December 7, 1990 FROM: I.R. Zahynacz, P. Eng. ; City Engineer ao SUBJECT: PARKING & SCHOOL ZONE SIGNS ~ KILMER SCHOOL Recommendation: i. That “No Stopping” signs be posted along the south side of Pooley | and the east side of Knappen, along the boundary of Xilmer fe Elementary School; : 2. That a school zone sign be placed on Pooley Avenue directly west of | . Connaught. | % Background & Discussions: Attached is a letter dated November 27, 1990, from Mrs. King-Wilson, Kilmer Home and School Association, requesting improvements to traffic controls in the area. Also attached is a map of the Kilmer Elementary School area with proposed changes to signing. As Kilmer Elementary School is a french immersion school, there are a lot of students that are driven to and from school. As there is no on-site pick up and drop off area at Kilmer School, parents are using Fooley and Knappen for pick up and drop off purposes. Children dart from between the cars creating a potential safety problem. Posting "No Parking” signs along Kilmer Elementary School would at least provide some space for a safer sight distance. Also, there is an existing school zone sign on Pooley and Taylor, for traffic going west on Pooley. This sign should be moved to Pooley adjacent to Connaught so that vehicles coming from Connaught and going west on Pooley . would immediately be entering a school zone area. t * 3 ; £ 7 4 x. y. tes peat ceare toes emer tee IRZ:gc Attachments ITEM | PAGE. parr)
