Authority determined that, effective : eg in 1987, School Board property which in the past had always been tax exempt would : ee be taxable when it is leased to other parties. As a result, some groups which i | had previously not been charged property taxes were charged for the first time this year. : ie Council has the authority under section 400 of the Municipal Act to exempt these . _ a properties from taxation, to do so requires a by~law passed with a two-thirds we . ee majority. It is not possible at this time to pass a by-law exempting for 1987, Oe _— to be effective a by-law to exempt for 1988 taxes must be passed by the end of wees : August 1987. Se | Attached is a copy of an application for exemption received from PoCo Happy Times Se aa . Preschool as well as copies of a report sent to Council last year when this first ns a came up.
