THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMO Administration Committee. DATE: October 23, 1984 J. Maitland, City Treasurer. SUBJECT: Building permit and inspection fees. RECOMMENDATION : That our building permit and inspection fees be revised as per the attached schedule. BACKGROUND _& COMMENTS: When a building permit is applied for, the building department reviews the plans for conformance to the building code and estimates the value of the construction based upon current building costs. The applicant pays the prescribed fee and is then required to request and receive inspections prior to proceeding beyond certain stages of construction. A typical house with no construction problems or reinspections will receive ten individual on site inspections. Our recent history of revenue versus costs shows the following for our building inspection department: Revenue Expenses Net Cost ST 1984 budget $62,000 $142,400 $80,400 1983 67,694 138,595 70,901 1982 70,600 126,083 55,483 1981 104,732 94,692 -10,040- The proposed fees are similar to thoge charged in Coquitlam and Port Muody and are substantially higher than our existing fees as the following table shows.
