Peters., P, Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Council Policy Regarding Brush Clearing - Public Works Committee, June 14th, 1983 RECOMMENDATION: That Council formalize the existing unwritten policy regarding brush clearing between the ditch and property Jine by adopting the following Policy statement: . , WHEREAS owners of Property in non-rural areas are responsible tor landscaping and grass cutting of the boulevards in front of their property, and WHEREAS the same standard of boulevard maintenance Is not expected in rural areas where many frontages are very long, and WHEREAS the strip of boulevard immediately adjacent to the roadway is important to the function of a roadway as a shoulder, and WHEREAS the cost of brush clearing between. the shoulder and the Property tine has not been provided for in the Annual Budget, elght feet where there is no ditch, and any brush clearing desired by the owner of the adjacent property in the strip between the shoulder and his property tine wilt be his own responsibility. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: Council heard a request from Mr. Malone of 2475 Surns Road to have brambles cleared from between the ditch and his property line. Mr. Malone had previously contacted the City and had been told of our policy of the homeowner being responsible for the vegetation adjacent to his property on the boulevard.
