RE: "Sign Changes - 2540 Shaughnessy Mall

Mr. E.C. Morel, of Walburn Neon Ltd., will be in attendance at the Council
meeting of October 28th, 1974 to again discuss the ahove noted subject with
Council,

Council will recall that when this subject was discussed on October 21, 1974

4 question arose concerning the exact nature of the signs that were permitted
under the Land Use Contract and we would advise that none are permitted except
those shown on the drawing which was attached to and formed part of the contract.
A reduced photostat print of the relevant drawing is reproduced on the reverse .
side of this memorandum and we have marked two particularly relevant items on

this drawing.

Basically, a horizontal projecting sign as proposed by Walburn Neon Ltd. is not
permitted but a fascia sign erected on a pole extending above the present sign
band would be permitted.

Technically, the only lawful way to permit erection of the sign proposed by
Walburn Neon Ltd. would be by way of an amendment to the present Land Use Contract
which would involve preparation of an amending by-law, holding of a Zoning Public
Hearing and a favourable vote by two thirds of ail the members of Council. —
