The team of 21 players, most of whom are new.this season, have won three games and lost two, giving them six points and a. fourth place spot in the standings. ~ After losing their first two games, Terrace Super BM, which stands for Superior Build- ing Maintenance, is coming back strong and ° manager Dimitri Filtziakis believes they will . . keep on winning.’ a, - “T.think we could win it-all,” he says. : “They’re good, yeah, strong players.” Last year, after beating Alcan and top- ping the league standings, the team lost the playoffs due to a shortage of players, leaving only 11 men to play with no substitutions. But the team almost lost its chance to de- fend its number one standing this year. The league suffered financial problems to ‘the point that°it was set to fold before the new season started. Kitimat’s Cliff Madsen, an avid soccer fan, stepped in as president to ensure the league's survival. “Cliff Madsen’s doing an awesome job,” Filtziakis says. “He heard there wasn’t going to be -a league. He’s a total outsider, he didn’t play, he just liked to watch the games. He’s put ‘ together the league.” Madsen has stepped up to the challenge. The league is already taking care of is- sues, and recently held a disciplinary meeting to hand a 10 game suspension to a Kitimat player for threatening another player. And a compromise was reached so Ter- race would continue to participate. “The only reason we agreed to play was because they. committed to having games in Terrace,” Filtziakis says. “Driving to Kitimat last year for all the games wasn’t cool.” Super BM’s competition includes FC Alcan, Luso Canadian, FC Sabres and new _ additions the Haisla Braves and Team X from Mount Elizabeth Secondary School in Kitimat. Games play at the Thornhill Junior Sec- ondary field on Sundays at 3 p.m. In Kitimat, games are held at River-= -lodge field on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p-m., on Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and in Kitamaat Village on most Tuesdays at 7 p.m. AS. of May 20, the league standings are: Team Points LUSO 7 : 10 FC ALCAN 8 FC SABRES 7 SUPER BM 6 _ HAISLA 3 0 TEAM X _ Sports Menu Skeena Valley Golf “june 4 oe, - The Skeena River Relay n runs from Prince Rupert to Terrace along Hwy 16.
