He sees rivalry but it’s between the teams By BILL, LEVITT OTTAWA (CP) — Quar- terback Condredge Hollowa says Sunday's sadden-death Eastern Football Conference semi-final against Hamilton Tiger-Cats is a showdown against a tough defensive unit — and not against former team-mate Tom Cle- ments, . “No way I'm playing against Tom Clements,’ Holloway said Thursday in an interview. “I'm playing against 12 defensive guys,” “T've got to look out for a tough 'Cat in Ziambiasi,” he said with a grin. Ben Ziambiasi, Hamilton's outside linebacker, is the conference nominee as outstanding defensive player in the country, “Tommy and I were rivala when we played for the same team but we're not anymore," Holloway added. Holloway and Clements joined Ottawa from U.S. univerities in 1975. Clements immediately became one of the Canadian Football League's premier quarter- backs, ; Holloway, a solid relief man, was finally rewarded for his patience when Clements decided to play out his option thie year, . The Riders promptly shipped Clements off to Saskatchewan and midway through the season he was packed off to Hamilton, Ciaments brought the. listless Tiger-Cats roaring back to life, inapiring them to overhaul Toronto Argonauts and grab the last conference playoff spot. Ottawa handled the Tiger- Cats easily at home this season by 30-19 and 444 scores. Hamilton retallated by winning two games, 16-9 and 21-3 on their home ground. Holloway said Clements will not have an advantage over the Riders because '‘we have a tendency to change our defencea.” “He'll have to study the films and nat depend on past performances.” Holloway also said he feels great and looks forward to playing in the game that will be televised nationally by the CBC at 2 p.m. EST. One major decision Hamilton coach John Payne has to make is whether to use Rufus Crawford, an elusive running back who looked impressive in his CFL debut against Montreal Alouettes last week, or Ronnie Rowland, a brulsing runner who rushed for 814 yards despite missing three mes, ; Payne said Rowland, a power runner, will get the - nod if Lansdowne Park's natural turf is softened by rain or snow. Sunday will tell Which is more important to a pro football passing game — the quarterback or the wide recelvers? Los Angeles and Chicago find out Sunday in a National Football League showdown when the Rams use their No. passer against the Bears — who are down to second: atring wide receivers because of injuries, Rookie Jeff Rutledge is the man on the spot for Los Angeles, replacing regular Pat Haden, who's out for the season With a broken finger, and backup Vince Ferragamo, still recuperating fram a broken hand. The Bears will use Brian Baschnagel and Steve Schubert at wide receiver, replacing Golden Richards, out with a bad knee, and James Scott, who suffered a broken leg last week, The hunch here is that the Bears will prevail, mostly because of Walter Payton, who's net hurt.
