Deputy Engineer SUBJECT: GRANT APPLICATION FOR 1993 HOME COMPOSTER PROGRAM (Environmental Protection Committee Mecting of Necember 16.1992) That the City of Port Coquitlam apply to the Ministry of Environment for a 1/3 capital grant to go towards the purchase of 2,000 home composting bins for the 1993 Home Compost Bin Distribution Program. RACKGROUND AND. COMMENTS: The Environmental Protection Committee considered that attached memorandum from the Project Engineer dated December 15, 1992. The committee agreed with the recommendation to apply to the provincial government for a 1/3 capital grant for a 1993 Home Composter Program. The estimated total cost to purchase 2,000 home composting bins for the 1993 program is $98,500, The net cost to the City for this program is $32,833 when revenues from the composter sale to residents and a 1/3 provincial capital grant are considered. The grant application does not commit the City to undertake a home composting progratn and Council will have a chance for more discussions on the home compost program and other environmental programs during the upcoming 1993 budget sessions. ty ngineer ADB/adb a “ow eee)
