Alderman Mabbett advised he served as Chairman of the Public Works Committee in 1980 with a budget of approximately three million dollars. Alderman Mabbett then reviewed the work carried out: Cedar Drive overlay, Kingsway Avenue, rebuilt: part of the road; Prairie Avenue, storm sewer; Pitt River Road repaved from McLean Avenue to Shaughnessy Street; water line on Eastern Drive; and relocated watermains on Kingsway Avenue in preparation for the Mary Hill Bypass. Alderman Mabbett advised he served as co-chairman of the Community Developments Committee and stated approximately 243 building permits were issued in 1980 with three million dollars for industrial building and over ten million for residential. Alderman Mabbett referred to the new Downtown Revitalization program and expressed good wishes to Terry Fox and expressed his appreciation to Mr. Keith R. Ballantyne for the work on Light Rapid Transit which is proposed for the CPR tracks by 1982. Alderman Mabbett stated an apartment zone is proposed for the south side of Port Coquitlam and work will continue on industrial development. Alderman Mabbett expressed his appreciation to the staff and wished everyone well in the Christmas season. Retizing Alderman Ranger advised he worked on the Planning and Zoning Committee with Alderman Wright and expressed his appreciation to the City Planner. Mr. Ranger expressed his ideas for future development and the building of apartments and expressed his pleasure at the announcement by the Provincial Government for Light Rapid Transit to be in place by 1982 but stated in his opinion there is a missing component - the widening to four lanes of the 401 freeway. Mr. Ranger advised Council in his opinion a ring road for the downtown area is a priority and expressed his appreciation to the people in Port Coquitlam who work on a volunteer basis for sports, etc. Mr. Ranger thanked the citizens of Port Coquitlam for his five terms in office and wished Council good luck and everyone a Merry Christmas.
