Summer Games on July 23-26 and your bags are packed, your gear Is loaded and all your teammates are with you. You represent team Terrace and all your parents and friends are betting on you. Yes, you're exited. Young or old, you’re about to meet tons of other athletes your age who are into the same sport you are. Nervous? Don’t be, Chances are, you're not going. But you should still understand the excitement and spine-tingling exhilera- tion, the Summer Games are all about. So if you can’t go to the games, here's your sport-by-spart guide to the games. First off, Terrace is part of the zone seven team, a huge zone that covers northwestern B.C. from Vanderhoof to the Queen Char- lottes, Each of the eight zones in B.C. tries to cover the same population’ base — so that adequate competition exists in the qualify- ing rounds, Lower Mainland areas like Vancouver and Surrey, that are well- populated can cover a lot less area just to .y Match the northwest’s population. -¢ Still, Terrace athletes stand a great chance of winning. The Lakelse Lake Water-ski Club has been particularly active preparing for the games this year. They’ve built a profes- sional water-ski ramp and held a pre-games combined water-ski/wakeboard tournament July 6-10. So what's wakeboarding? Think of it as a cross between water- skiing aud snowboarding. Contestants go slower than water-skiicrs but do a series of awe-inspiring tricks to rack up points from judges. This year’s boarders are Leanne Critchley, whose brother is world-ranked Steven Critchley, Jeremy Jones, Bruce Mullin, Tyrell Armstrong, and Tyler Wil- son. Husband and wife team, Diane and Chuck Cey, will be returning to the mixed masters tournament for their second time, having won the bronze at the Games two years ago. ' Both Ceys have also played at the Games on other occassions, in a variety of tennis divisions. Deane Jenion, of Terrace, will be playing in the ladies doubles, with her Prince Rupert partner, Hester Flewin. w Softball SOFTBALL FANS can root for the Terrace girl’s softball team, coached by John Aus- tin. Zone seven boys softball will be represented by Kitimat. mg Soccer — -& NUMBER of Terrace boys will be in Maple Ridge ‘as part of the zone seven boys soccer team. The team will play a series of five games at the Games’ new Field For Kids. Other team members come from Kitimat, Smithers and Hazelton. a Cycling . TERRACE cyling representatives were de- cided in late June. - Terrace entries in four different categories are: Adam Spensely, Chris Scarborough, Brandon Smoley and Kyle Mason in the Junior category. Terrace Cadets ages 15-16 are David Andrszyn and Lance Pierce. Jeff Meeks will represent the 19-33 age group and Fay Campbell will represent the women, # English Equestrian AUDRA JOHNSON and Cory Anderson are amoung Terrace equestrian team mem- bers that will take their horses down to Maple Ridge this week to prepare for horse jumping competitions, Alldra said the meet is always exiting and both horse and rider should do just fine after Johnson injured her leg carly last week, weekend.
