SHIRLEY HEAD was a
public heath nurse, a Girl
Guide leader, skier and later
on in life, found the love of
her life —- sailing.

Shirley passed away on
September 7, in Vancouver,
She fought cancer for four
years of her life with great
determination and bravery.

Bom on March 14, 1935
in Prince Albert, Sas-
katchewan, Shirley dedi-
cated her life to nursing.

She graduated from ithe
Holy Family School of
Nursing in Saskatchewan in
1957 and worked in north-
em Saskatchewan for a
number of years before
moving to New West-
minster, Vancouver,

In the 1960s she began
working in the Nass Valley,
braving treacherous logging
roads in all kinds of
weather,

As a public health nurse,
she delivered babies, treated
logging injuries and dis-
pensed more than just health
advice to the residents in
isolated communities.

In 1967, Shirley married
Gerry Head in Port Edward.
She then started working at
Mills Memorial Hospital as
a public health nurse.

Her involvement in our
community was very active.
She was a Girl Guide leader,
a sorority member and an

avid curler,

Shirley moved to

ed to its fullest

Lantzville in 1975, where
she opened a dress shop and
later ran a weight loss clinic.

In 1982, Shirley moved
once again, this time to
Vancouver where she
worked at U.B.C. Health
and Science centre at the
geriatrics ward. She was
loved and respected by both
residents and staff alike.

She loved the outdoors,
skating, cross-country
skiing and at 50, sailing.
She also loved travelling
and Hawaii was one of her
favourite destinations.

She was aa real doer, she
always strove to right
wrongs and always aimed to
leave the world a better

place,
Friends = gathered ~—to
honour her memory at

U.B.C. Hospital for a
memorial tea.

She will be missed by
friends and family who will
remember her kindness and
devotion to others,
