| | Airport expansion — still an "if" The idea of expanding the Ter- race-Kitimat Airport terminal is not a new idea. It’s been around for about 10 years. Little wonder no one gets very excited any more when the topic comes up. Most wonder if it will ever happen at all. But times have changed. We’re closer now than ever before. Preliminary drawings by Terrace _architect Allan Soutar are 90 per- cent complete and could soon be in the final design stage. Then, éff the federal government comes up with the necessary funds in their 1992/93 budget, construction could begin in the spring of 1992. If we can clear that final hurdie next spring, if the federal govern- ment comes up with the necessary funds in their 1992/93 budget, the expanded terminal will provide an attractive gateway to Terrace. The existing portion of the main floor will undergo extensive renovations and the passenger area will be nearly doubled in size by an exten- sion on the west end of the ter- minal building. Where To Find It Passengers arriving in Terrace will enter the building at about the centre of the runway side. Once inside, they will find car rental agencies conveniently located on their left, On their right, will be an indoor conveyer system where they can pick up their luggage and then it’s a straight-through walk to the terminal exit and the parking lot. On their way out of town, they will enter the terminal through a sky-lit entry in the new part of the building and find airline counters directly ahead of them. Once they’ve checked in with the airline of their choice, they might want to browse in a relocated and much larger souvenir shop. Or perhaps purchase a light meal in the ter- minal cafeteria which will be roughly the same as it is now. Or, if it was more to their taste, they might want to relax in a new rental space on the opposite side of the cafeteria kitchen which is presently envisioned as a licensed lounge.
