| | Di TERRACE — Earlier this year a British based com- pany officially reached Canada through a new im- proved version of a diet drink. This new version has been designed to com- ply with Canada’s high standards. by Philip Musselman Cambridge Diet Plan is. a diet product that can be purchased in. several forms, presently it is available in a drink mix and in snack bars, but eventually there will be products such as pudding mixes. The product is designed to fulfill the body’s requirements as ef- ficiently as possible without as many calories, As the name suggests, the company got its start in Cambridge, England where its inventor Dr. Allan Howard and _ his supporters took ten years developing the plan. Throughout the history of Cambridge, it has been in development and testing for over ten years. The ten year research is part of Dr. Howard’s plan of devel- oping an efficient form of acquiring the nourishment that people in under developed nations need. In fact, the company and 10. The biscuit would consequently offer the vitamins and minerals that are missed in these areas and hopefully help solve the hunger problem. The Canadian owned part of the business has developed a special Cana- dian product. When the product was first mar- keted in Canada it did not meet the strict specifica- cme een ee tions. Today the. plan is even healthier, the pro- blem was that it was being mixed with water and now it has been changed so that it can be mixed with two percent milk instead. The idea behind the product ensures that people eat, or in this case, drink right. The smack bar is another element of the product that allows a needed change for people who get tired of the drink, even if there are five flavors. It is not recom- mended that the plan be used by people who are dependent on insulin or victims of a recent heart attack unless a physician says otherwise. The drink mix is fairly reasonable, said Ruth Bahr, Terrace Distributor, at $1.50 per meal. On the other hand snack bars are about $2.50 per meal, There are five flavors for drinks and two for snack bars and more products are on the way, Now the manufacturing is done in Burnaby, B.C. and there is an office in Kamloops. Dr, Howard has also writ- ten a book which explains the difference between the new and old product. Howard will visit Van- couver in February of BRIGHT .. have your newspaper delivered every week. The plan is based on 900 calories per day and is not really recommended to pregnant women because of the extra ‘nourishment they must make available for their child,. but it ‘is good for lactating mothers _ who do not use it as a sole source of food.
