Two-Way Traffic Ahead (WB-3}

The Two-Way Traffic Ahead sign shall indicate to motorists
driving on a one-way street or highway that they are approaching
a section where two-way traffic is in operation and that the nor-
mal rules of the road for two-way operation apply,

It shall be reflectorized to show the same colour and shape
by night as by day,

An educational tab sign may be used to convey the meaning
of the symbol during the introductory period.

PEDESTRIAN ACTIVITY

As outlined in Section A2.13, the problem of meeting particular demands for pedestrian
activity often require the application of not only regulatory signs but also warning signs.
Such signs may be utilized to advise motorists of the presence of school grounds, or that
pedestrians may be expected to be crossing the roadway at some point ahead.

While many may feel that the School Ahead sign should conform to the standard
for advance warning signs, it is felt at the present time that school crossings present a
Special situation and that the applicable sign shoula be distinctive in nature (blue pen-
tagon with white message). ,

Warning signs, warning motorists of the presence of either pedestrian, school, or
playground crosswalks should be kept toa minimum and only utilized when visibility of
the actual crosswalk is restricted.

School Ahead Sign (We-1) -*"..
Application of the School Ahead sign should be made only after

reference to section A213.01 WARRANTS FOR SCHOOL
SIGNS.

Where used, the sign shall be erected not less than $0 m nor
more than 300 m in advance of the school grounds or of the
crossing used by the pupils, in accordance with the general
specifications for the placement of warning signs,

For streets and highways with two or more lanes of moving
traffic in each direction, in addition to the sign installed at the
side of the roadway, another sign may be suspended centrally 60x 60 em
over those laries at a height of not less than 4.5, nor more than
6 m from the roadway tc the bottom of the sign.

The School Advance sign shall be pentagon-shaped with al ITEM | PAGE
