FIRE DEPARTMENT MANNING SUMMARY Past Fire Department practice mislea people as to the strength of our emergency responses. Our emergency vehicles were responding to alarms drastically undermanned. Our rescue unit and aerial truck are at present unmanned, leaving our City at some risk. Our building inspections are a "Risk-Management" liability. The Fire Prevention Program is understaffed and falling further behind. Programs for Senior Citizens and Schools are being held in abeyance. New By-Laws will put an additicnal strain on our resources. An increase of 6 Fire Fighters will eliminate considerable amounts of banked time. Fire inspections and By-Law enforcement will be brought into line. Emergency response of the Rescue Unit will become automatic. Programs for Training and Succession Planning can be effected, with considerable savings. I recommend the addition of 6 Fire Fighters to the staff of the Port Coquitlam Fire Department. this will greatiy increase efficiency and apparatus response. eine iMepwe cio emcee cea
