The Regional District of Kitimat Stikine will ask Central Mountain Airlines and Air B.C./Air Canada to keep services in the north. Peter Bymes, a spokesman for Central Mountain, said its smaller 18-passenger Beech 1900D aircraft are more efficient and cheaper than Air B.C.’s larger ait- craft, he said. “Those routes were our routes,” said Byrnes of the cancelled northerm runs which formed the backbone of the company before it connected up with Air B.C. “But we have to look at the overall profitability of the company and the eco- nomic reality in the north make a decision for the good of the company.” Central Mountain’s new schedule, effective Oct. 5, sees it add more runs be- tween Vancouver and Van- couver Island, more flights between the coast and Cal- gary and begin service from Vancouver to Kelowna, Quesnel and to Kamloops. The company will con- tinue flying between Smithers and Vancouver but will cancel its Smithers to Prince George run and its Prince George to Kelowna and Kamloops run. Bymes said the company did consider but rejected the idea of keeping northern runs using aircraft smaller than its fleet of Beechcraft WE SINCERELY REGRET ANY INCONVENIENCE WE MAY HAVE CAUSED YOU, os coted3-All Zones The Jay Kelso and his gang at Terrace Esso & Have You Heard News? we.
