ROBERT STRACHAN, PROVINCIAL LEADER “CLEAR CHOICE” Oo’ September 12th the choice is clear: the airy promises of Bennett and his cohorts or the straight forward down to earth program of the New Democrats that puts people first. For fourteen years the Gundersons have.been eating cake while crumbs were doled out to the people. A jet plane for Gaglardi was more important than more food on a pensioner's table. The major issue is the continued rise in the cost of living and the ebject failure of the Bennett government to deal with this problem. Only the New Democrats have presented a program that will effectively meet present attacks on our standard of living. The Socred motto remains unchanged: Wait! Why Do It Now? They promise a grant to people buying a home for the first time. They do nothing about the lack of mort- - gage money, without which people cannot build homes. They promise more money for our senior citizens, but vote against giving them that extra money in Ot- tawa. They pay lip service to the provision of equal edu- cational opportunities for all, but turn their back on proposals to make text books free and to eliminate tuition fees at universities and our vocational and tech- nical schools. They talk about industrial peace and then line up solidly with management and the courts to deny B.C. ‘workers the right to genuine collective bargaining. The Socreds invite people to enjoy beautiful B.C. and its rivers, lakes and parks. In the same breath they say “no” to those who would prevent air and water pollution and the rape of our parks by selfish private interests. They talk about the sacredness of the individual but turn a cold shoulder to the chronically ill and to the dental needs of our children. They refuse to com- mit themselves on the federal medicare proposals or to include prescription drugs under the present B.C. plan. The unkept and phony promises of the Bennett gov- ernment can be multiplied a thousand-fold when you add those made — and not kept — by the individual Socred M.L.A. It is time the arrogant little man who now heads our provincial government was given a jolt. You can do that in your constituency on September 12th.
