Taxi companies face off te four cars under the name of Terrace Taxi Ltd. But that application will be opposed by Kalum Kabs Manager Roger Bal, who says competition - won’t necessarily improve ” Jocal service, “Economically, it’s im- possible,” be ‘said of the idea of two competing cab” companies surviving here dnd offering comparable service to what exists now. The Terrace and District Credit Union powered up a new service called MemberLink Dec. 1 in Terrace. It's going to be offered free for at least three months and _ may remain a no-charge service if it saves in other areas, manager Dennis Brewer said. The phone service allows anyone to get hours and | rates information. Members can also punch in their account mimber fol- lowed by a personal access code. They’re then able to transfer between accounts, verify deposits and cheques, and check balances. Brewer says members can record their regular utility bill account numbers at the credit union and then beable to pay those with a phone call. The pay-by-phone bill service is cheaper (75 cents as op- posed to $1.25) than paying the bill at the branch normally, and is free with some package accounts. “The utility bill payments really work well,’’ said Brewer, predicting that option will get a lot of use. The option has so far come to about 20 credit unions in B.C. Brewer said the Terrace and District Credit Union is also looking at a personal computer direct-banking system being offered now by the Van City credit union. ‘Tt allows access to accounts through remote control on ‘a TV screen or by personal computer with modem,” be said. ‘‘You’re then able to print statements and do all kinds of things. ’’ -YOQUR COLLEGE IN’ ~YOUR COMMUNITY beginners 5-7 January intermed. 12-14 January advanced 19-21 January beginners 9-11 February 2.1/2. days for $185.00 Courses run Friday evening to Sunday - afternoon. equipment is provided: Skis, skins, bindings, avalanche beacons, shovels Beat’ Mountaineering School Christoph Dietzfelbinger Mountain and Ski Guide UIAGM . = 847-3351 847-2834 ‘847-4533 Box 4222 Smithers, B,C.
