He -believes volunteerism is one’s ticket on earth. Baker is the father of three boys: Michael age 10, Dano, eight, and Wesley age five, and has a wife Dee who is a teacher at Skeena Junior Secondary school. His family fully supported him in his decision to ac- cept the position. “They’re very excited I’m part of it.” . “It is great to be surrounded by people who can do their job — SO well...” _As the president, said Baker, I try to attend all of the meetings. This means .anywhere from , . CC. three evenings or more - with the magnitude of it, — per week. It’s great to be surrounded by people who can do their job so well since I don’t have all the ideas. What's really nice, said Baker, is to see the good side of human be- ings. The people who are committed to us didn't have to commit themselves but they did and without reserva- tions. So many people are seeing the value of the games for the com- munity. There’s a great _ reward in being involv- ed, stated Baker. The more, you give, the more you will get back. Baker is presently training to compete in the B.C, Summer Games taking place in Cran- - brook. ‘We have a very good masters swimming team here in Terrace and I’m confident that we'll do well in the competi- tion. r sity Daniele Berquist : rt director, Games are a “fine venture” would really like to see. would like the game par- ticipants to feel that Ter- race is a place they would like to return to. A success This is the objective of Marylin Davies, protocol . director for the games, and all who are involved - in making it a success. - Brought honor Davies had originally offered to help out with the games and was later asked to take the posi- tion of protocol director. She is an outstanding piano teacher and, along with Ginny Lowrie, helped organize Terrace’s first music festival 21 years ago. Davies has also brought honor to the community when she was nominated the provincial president of the Ladies Golf Association in Novem- ber of 1984; prior to this, Davies was district chair- man for the golf associa- tion for five years in this ' area, Marylin Davies. Phil and I think the games are a fine venture for our town. invitations Davies has put in a large number of hours weekly seeing that invita- tions are sent out on time to various guests such as politicians and corporate sponsors. Included in her functions are five com- mittees that Davies is responsible for. One is the cultural and special events with Barbara Ken- ney Officiating. For the hostess committee is Laverne Hislop, hospi- tality with Marilyn Anderson, the medal presentation with Wendy Giesbrecht and sport co- ordinator, Howard Chasasin. Fine venture “This town has been good to us, Davies, and I want to give something back to ‘1 think the games are a fine venture for our town.” End of tunnel Everything has gone really well and we have seen the end of the tun- nel, added Davies. As for volunteers, Davies said their com- mittee is full and she would like to thank everyone who has of- fered their services. It’s great to see the town pull together, Davies added.
