LA FEDERATION DES FRANCO- COLOMBIENS Established in 1945 from a common need for unity by existing francophone organizations of that era, the “Fédération des Franco-Colombiens” soon became the official voice for the francophone community in British Columbia. With a present active membership of some 30 associations, the F.F.C. encourages dialogue amongst its members and offers support and development services in communication, culture, education, economy, youth and community endeavours. Furthermore, it acts for its members to obtain and defend rights and services and lends assistance where necessary. F.F.C. MISSION To promote, represent and defend the rights and interests of francophones in British Columbia. MAIN OBJECTIVES 1. Increase services in French throughout British Columbia. 2. Increase the availability and quality of educational services in French in British Columbia. 3. THE FRANCOPHONE FLAG The dogwood is the symbol of British Columbia. The lines represent the sea and the rise in the lines suggest the Rocky Mountains. The “fleur de lys” symbolises the francophone community, while the circle alludes to the sun. One of the petals of the dogwood flower is also part of the “fleur de lys”. British Columbia is enriched by its francophones. The “fleur de lys” points to the sun, and where there is sun, there is life and hope.
