Subject: 1994 May Day Dates

Recommendation:

That Port Coquitlam's 1994 May Day Celebration be held the weekend of May 13 - 15,
1994.

1.0 Purpose/Problem

1.1 To provide the members of the Parks and Recreation Committee with information and
a recommendation regarding the proposed date for the 1994 May Day Celebration.

2.0  History/Background

2.1 May Day has traditionally been held on the second weekend in May, which has
normally fell on the Mother's Day weekend. However, 1994 has tumed out to be an
interesting year from this perspective because the first day of the month is a Sunday.

In addition, Maple Ridge's Mountain Festival traditionally starts with a parade on the
first Saturday in May. Therefore, their parade will be held on May 8, 1994.

Alternatives

We reviewed several altematives but the only one that really makes any sense is to
avoid conflicting with the Mountain Festival Parade.
