SUBJECT: UBCM resolution requesting that the senior governments be
requested. to show their continued commitment to energy management
by continuing funding support for regional energy conservation

programs

" RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council endorse the following resolutions proposed by Port
Coquitlam to be considered at the 80th Annual Convention of the Union

of B.C. Municipalities at Pentiction, September, 1983, calling upon

senior governments to show their continued support for energy management

and specifically to build upon the successful regional energy information
program. In addition, Council. should solicit the support of the other

four Councils with Information Centres for this resolution to the UBCM.

Resolutions

WHEREAS. the senior governments have provided funding for Energy
Information Centres in Nanaimo, Victoria, Cranbrook, Dawson Creek

‘

~ and Port Coquitlam;

AND WHEREAS these Centres have been extrenely successful in assisting
local homeowners, businesses and industry with energy management;

AND WHEREAS funding for these Centres is scheduled to be terminated
- by senior governments on March 31, 1984.

‘ THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the senior governments be requested to
show their continued commitment to energy management by continuing
funding support for regional energy conservation programs.
