THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM OUNCIL June 12th, 1980 REPORT TO: Mayor and Council FROM: Parks & Recreation Committee ITEM NO. 1 May Day The Committee, at their last meeting met with Wendy Bridge to discuss the future of May Nay. The Co~ordinator indicated that it was necessary to know as early as possible whether Council was to sponsor May Day, in order to get things lined up earlier instead of leaving many items: to the last minute. Wendy indicated that some discussion had taken place at May Day Committee meetings to move the parade to the North side but she felt that, at this time, this was not a feasible option. Committee would like to make the following recommendations for Council's considera- tion: Recommendation That May Day be declared an‘annual event. That May Day take place on the weekend following the long weekend in May. That the parade be held on the South side until appropriate facilities are provided for at McLean Park and then possibly a second look be taken for a different parade route, ITEM NO. 2) Feneing at MeLean Part The Committee has received quotations for the fencing at the N.E. diamond which amounts to $11,91].00. ‘he amount placed in the budget fer this diamond waa $10,000.00. Recommendation That the Parks Department proceed with the fencing at the N.E. diamond and that the overage be taken out of the "unallocated park fund of $5,000.00". Continued...
