Minister of Rehabilitation and Social Improvement, Mr. Norman Levy, urging the
Province to increase maintenance rates paid for personal care homes so that the
cost of subsidizing this type of accommodation will not fall upon elderly

citizens and others who are in need of this type of care.

Regulations for Land Clearing

Council will recall that the City submitted a resolution to the U.B.C.M. and

had subsequent cerrespondence with the Premier and the Minister of Municipal
Affairs regarding the inadequacy of the current legislation regarding the
cutting of trees and muintaining of natural amenities to the land. The Chairman
advised the Committee that the Department of Municipal Affairs had informed

hin that legislation was being considered however they were concerned about the
effect of Lianket legislation in municipalities where forest management licences

were in effect.

This matter was discussed briefly by the Committee and it was thought that a

recommendation could go to Victoria urging them to proceed with legislation and,
if necessary, provide an exemption for any areas within a municipality covered by

Forest managenert Licences.
