June 25th, 1979. /5. Prior to the question being called on the foregoing resolution discussion ensued. Alderman Mabbett advised he was attending a meeting at the Greater Vancouver Regional District and would inquire regarding the Greater Vancouver Regional District's report on volatile material storage. From the Leisure Activities Committee, June 21st, 1979 advising LAC, June 21/ 79 re B.C. receipt of the report "Toward a B.C. Summer/Winter Games in District Summer /Winter Games. #43" and recommending Council give ratification to the three recommendations made by the Task Force. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the current Task Force Committee remain intact and work toward a future B.C. Summer Games, perhaps in the mid 1980's, when it is assumed that somewhere within District #43, there will be appropriate facilities to cope with the centralization of such an event. Carried. Aldermen Keryluk and Traboulay voted against the resolution. Pzxior to the passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Traboulay ‘advised he was not in favour of having the Task Force Committee remain intact as the possibility of District #43 hosting the Games was very remote. Discussion then ensued. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the Task Force Committee be authorized to attend, as official observers, the 1979 Richmond Summer Games in August with the purpose of further assessing the implications of hosting a Games in the future. Carried. Alderman Traboulay voted against the resolution. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That on the advice of Mr. Ron Butlin, Chairman and Managing Director of the B.C. Games, an official inter-municipal council delegation attend the 1979 Richmond Summer Games, and that a formal request for such a representation be lodged with the Board of Directors of the Richmond Summer Games Society at an early date. Defeated. Aldermen Ranger and Mabbett voted in favour of the resolution.
