Buxton, May Day Co-ord. advising that the May Day Committee is considering using the Poco Cabana Apr. 25/79 re May Day Teen Disco on Shaughnessy Street for the May Day Teen Dance on Saturday, May Dance, 26th, 1979 from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, at a cost of $2.00 per person, and requesting that Section 4(c) of Discotheque By-law 1978, No. 1626 be waived to allow teens from the age of 13 to 18 years to attend. Mrs. Buxton was present to answer Council's questions. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: BWR SOLE A tet That as requested by Mrs. Doris Buxton, May Day Co-ordinator, April 25th, 1979 Section 4(c) of Discotheque By-law, 1978, No. 1626 be waived to allow teens from the age of 13 to 18 years to attend the May Day Dance to be held at the Poco Cabana Disco at 2614 Shaughnessy Street, on Saturday, May 26th, 1979 from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight at a cost of $2.00 per person. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution discussion ensued. Aldermen Wright and Laking discussed the age limit as set out in By-law No. 1626. Alderman Ranger stated with school functions there is a limit of age groups with 13 to 15 year olds being in attendance at Junior High School and 16 to 18 year olds being in attendance at High School. Mrs. Buxton advised there would be no teen dance this year if the Disco was not used as the arena does not have sufficient staff to allow a dance to be held. Aldermen Mabbett and Traboulay asked for clarification on the amount of supervision that would be at the dance and Mrs. Buxton stated the owner of the Poco Cabana Disco would be taking care of the supervision requirements. Alderman Traboulay asked whether the May Day Dances held in the past allowed 13 to 18 year olds to be in attendance and the :Recreation Director advised the May Day dances in the past have included 13 to 18 The Recreation Director further advised the Recreation year olds. Department usually hired 4 to 5 additional people for supervision of teen dances for approximately 300 teens. Alderman Traboulay asked for clarification of the procedure regarding the curfew and the Recreation Director stated in the past the R.C.M.P. has been notified when a dance is to be held
