However, our summer didn’t provide very good grape-growing weather. None of Carpino’s out- side grapes ripened. Even the grapes inside the greenhouse didn’t devel- op or ripen to full capac- ity. In spite of the bad year Carpino expects to make about 30 litres of deli- cious sweet red wine, He also imports some Cali- fornia grapes for wine making. Wine making has changed quite a bit since he was young, Carpino remembers crushing the grapes with his feet, as a boy in Italy. It was the men’s job to crush the grapes.
