Sotho MUNIL AL TIRE LUA LLU ALTRI LULL orean people will crush ankee invaders | . An editorial alec by the People’s Daily World, Peking, China HE Korean people have won the sympathy of all pro- gressive mankind in their patriotic war to eliminate the reactionary Korean and American aggressors. Headed by the United States, the whole imperialist world is using every sort of villainous and bloody means to defeat the Korean people, but still they advance victoriously: Now the Korean war occupies the centre of international affairs. During the first brief ‘days of the Korean war, the adventurist bloc of the imperialist pirate, Tru- man, has displayed to the people of the whole world its vicious, war- like face. At the same time it has exposed its weakness, panic and serious internal conflicts. All who love justice now know that the American imperialists armed Syngman Rhee’s gang of puppets in South Korea according to plan and ordered them to launch the civil war. On the out- break of the Korean civil war, America instantly announced di- rect armed intervention in Korea and at the same time threw down frenzied challenges to China, the Philippines and Viet-Nam. The U.S. government, disregard- ing all international justice and violating the United Nations Char- _ ter, used its control of the Secur- _ ity Council to direct it to its own _ aggressive ends, scheming to _ overthrow the principles of the _ United Nations. * % e : A long history lies behind this series of American criminal ac- _ tions. In the case of Korea, Amer- _ ica has nurtured the Syngman ‘Rhee clique for five years since the Japanese surrender, equip- Ping its 100,000 puppet troops and 50,000 police with arms to the ° point where she felt quite’ satisfied _ with them and considered that these puppet troops were capable Their adventurist onslaught be- gan after Dulles, special adviser to the U.S. state department, had gone to the parapets along the trenches at the 38th parallel and reviewed the South Korean puppet _ _ troops’ war preparedness and-af- and Bradley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had visited - Japan and returned to America’ vigilance of Korean people enr abled them, soon after the enemy attack began, to fling them back and cross over to the offensive, forcing the enemy to flee in panic. 2 U.S. imperialism and their pup- pets have created antagonism and cut themselves off from the Ko- rean people. Now that they have instigated full war in Korea, it is impossible for the Korean people to spare them. : e- ‘ The heroism of the Korean peo- ple liberated Seoul three days af- ter their swift counter-offensive began, Within one week, all fronts were pushed forward 80 to 115 kilometres, and an area of 20,000 square kilometres with 16 im- portant cities, strongholds, ports and islands as well as 6,000 villages were liberated. Six divisions. of Syngman Rhee’s total of eight divisions were routed or destroyed. The People’s Army also destroyed a -dozem naval vessels and 29 air planes of the U.S. and the South Korean puppet and captured large quantities of American- made arms and equipment, Syngman Rhee’s puppet troops gollapsed quickly before the of- fensive of the People’s Army. High ranking officials’ of the puppet clique ran away with what lug-~ gage they could carry and officers of the U.S. army on the Seoul front took to flight by swimming across the river. Yankee GI's: a long way from home and no place to. go. i MacArthur braved the rain and flew to the front on the 29th to direct the battles, but failed to halt the march of the People’s Army. ' Guerrillas and the mass of the people in South Korea every- where welcomed the People’s Army and actively cooperated with them—expanding the liber- ated areas in the South. The war ‘is. developing entirely con- trary to the expectations of the war instigators, This clearly demonstrates the unpopularity, corruption and powerlessness of the Syngman Rhee clique. It also shows that the aggressive war let loose by "the American warmongers and their lackeys is against justice and the people and, in conse- quence, is doomed to fail, while the liberation war of the Korean people is just and will prevail. But American imperialism still does not realize that it already faces defeat. So Truman has order- ed appropriations of “aid” for Syngman Rhee, reinforcements for MacArthur, the American army to to take part in the civil war, and American naval and air forces to extend their sphere of operations north of the 38th parallel. Truman has also succeeded in getting Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to send naval and air forces to join in the Ko- rean fighting in the hope of shor- ing up the cracking defences of the counter-revolutionary South Korean army, This, of course, will slow down > the victory of the people of Ko- rea, who will be forced to make preparations for long-drawn-out and comparatively more difficult struggles, On the. other hand, sz: |"Wery little left...” By MAX WERNER The pattern of fighting in Ko- rea now has become perfectly | clear; the entire southern part -of the peninsula became now one single battlefield where the nor- thern army is carrying out a large enveloping maneuver against the shattered and scat- tered Southerners. - - Most striking feature is the series of landings the Northern- ers have carried out far to the southeast. There from the port of Pohangdong, in the direction of the railroad center of Taegu, an envelopment of the southern fighting forces is taking place. The entire front is now taking the shape of a big semi-circle fell this week). It is a big man- . no longer between the Northern tal of the Southerners (which euver, being executed in an area almost one-third that of Great Britain. From a_ professional military viewpoint, the Northern-. ers’ warfare is bold and imagin- ative. It combines modern mo- bile operations, in the main di- rection south of Seoul, with sin- gle thrusts and unleashing of guerrillas in the deep rear of the Southerners. ; ; ; The resistance capacity of the Southern army seems to be close to the point of exhaustion. As things stand the alternative is advance and Southern defense with American support. There is | very little left in the South to be supported. American imperialism, in mobil- izing all these reactionary for- ' ces, has also exposed itself as being weak internally, for all its apparent strength, to say no- thing of its present extremely © confused situation. It is obvious that the entire strength of the reactionary forces will be unable to prevent the peo- _ ple of Korea from reaching their goal, The first and chief reason is that the imperialists and their quislings are completely divorced and isolated from the Korean masses. The Korean people, on the other hand, are firm in their stand for justice and united under the leadership of the Korean © Democratic People’s Republican Government. Moreover, they have the powerful sympathy of the world camp of peace and demo- cracy, Militarily, American imperial- ism is not without its problems. It has only a limited number of land forces stationed in the Pacific area and those which can be used in the Korean adventure are much smaller. Moreover, it is not easy for America to send reinforce- ments and the morale among the American troops in Korea is ex- ceptionally low. The South Korean puppet army is on the verge of disintegration, and even if it ean be reconstructed its effectiveness as a military force will still be negligible. American naval and air forces are without doubt maintaining Superiority at present, But they are definitely not the deciding factors in such a war, as was ‘proven in the last anti-Japanese war in Chima and the present — fighting carried on by the Viet- Nam people against the French : in Igdo-China. The same will be true with Korea, Both the Chin- €se and Viet-Namese peoples méver had any naval and air ‘Support or a modern army, but this deficiency never prevented them from gaining victories, though it posed certain difficul- « ties, From all this we can see that armed intervention by the Amer- ican and other imperialist govern- ments is not a thing to be feared. The Korean people’s forces, since entering into their present Successful offensive phase, have been maintaining the initiative in the fighting. The Korean people’s forces will also rapidly develop the armed strength of the masses, and orientate the people political- _ ly, militarily and economically for a sustained war. ; Confronted by such a heroic _ People determined to fight to the finish against the aggressors, ‘American imperialism can only meet the same fate as that suffer- ed by Japan in China and France in Viet-Nam. Will the imperialist warmong- ers attempt to instigate a third world war on the pretext of Ko- rea? On the contrary, the reso- lute resistance of the Korean people will make the outbreak of a new world war more diffi- cult. The resistance of the peo- ple of Korea and other Asian countries against aggression of . imperialists has taught the im- perialist bloc that the present is not the time when Hitler oc- cupied Europe and Japan occu- pied Manchuria with such ease. People in colonial and semi- -colonial countries, after the second world war, have demanded free- dom from imperialist oppression, ‘have unfolded national liberation movements and, in many places, have developed armed struggles. This is inevitable. This is the proud right of the peoples of these countries, and is absolutely’ in ac- cordance with the content of the United Nations Declaration, the United Nations Charter and other international agreements conclud- ed during and after the second world war, Imperialist aggression against and military intervention in these countries is absolutely without basis. By military intervention the imperialists can only thrust them- Selves into an extremely passive and dangerous position. The im- perialists. are confronting serious difficulties on the western front ahd now that they have turned the East into a front, their crisis has greatly intensified. The super- : ficial unity within the imperialist bloc over the intervention in Korea cantot last long when they meet — stubborn counter-action, American imperialism, who has opposition - on all. sides, cannot remain en- meshed in Korea for long. Public Opinion and the struggle of the people throughout the world are effectively backing the Korean people. The world camp of peace and democracy which has 800 mil- lion people behind it plus the poli- tically conscious working class and all other progressive people in the capitalist, colonial and semi- colonial countries, has become @ mighty force. The imperialist bloc, outwardly strong but inter- nally weak, cannot be compared e with it. ; : Therefore, we can be absolutely certain that the Korean people will win the war and the camp of peace and democracy will smash all the provocations of the | imperialists, ms PACIFIC TRIBUNE—JULY 21, 1950—PAGE
