Alderman Laking referred to the Engineer's report and stated in his opinion as the Bailey Bridge would be in place probably by Friday, truck restrictions would not be necessary. Alderman Gates stated tie was not in Favour of passing a Bylaw for such a short period of time. Alderman Muldoon advised she would endorse the Bylaw with the provision of a time limit. Letters were received from several of the trucking companies and Mr. Syd Brown of Coquitlam Diesel Service Ltd. requested permission to speak to the Council. Alderman B.3. Vater introduced Mr. Brown and Mr. Brown then made a presentation to Council regarding the possible restriction of trucks © on the Kingsway Bridge and stated that if the Bailey Bridge was to be in’ place on Friday, truck restrictions would not then be necessary. “Mr. Brown asked the Council whether the truck route would be changed when the Bailey Bridge is in place. Alderman Laking advised that closure of Pitt River Road was only proposed until the Bailey Bridge was in place and that truck restrictions would not be in effect any longer than necessary. Mr. J.C. Anderson, Terminal Manager of CP Transport then spoke to the Council regarding the proposed Bylaw and advised this would jeopardize their business if. truck restrictions were put on the Kingsway Bridge. Mr. Eric Nikolopoulos of the Casa Roma Restaurant spoke to Council regarding the effect truck restrictions would have to the businesses in the area. Alderman Wright advised he was not in favour of the Bylaw as in all likelihood the bridge will be in place by Friday, or shortly after. Alderman Muldoon suggested a letter be distributed to the truck companies requesting their cooperation in not using the Kingsway Bridge until a replacement for the Red Bridge is in place. Moved by Alderman Muldoon: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That a letter be distributed to the trucking companies requesting their cooperation in avoiding the use of the Kingsway Bridge until after the replacement of the "Red Bridge". Carried. Aldermen Mabbett and Wright voted against the resolution.
