May 12th, 1930. "WHEREAS the strict control of the application of toxic pesticides and herbicides is essential; AND WHEREAS such substances are occasionally used by municipalities as well as by other agencies who may operate within municipalities; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Province of British Columbia be requested to amend the Municipal Act or other appropriate statutes to make it abundantly clear that toxic pesticides or herbicides cannot be used without the specific approval of the Council of that municipality to be granted for each particular application." Carried. Frior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Keryluk asked that the resolution include the words "other agencies who may operate within municipalities" and the Council agreed. Alderman Ranger spoke regarding the spraying of toxic substances without First advising the Public. Alderman Wright spoke regarding getting further help from the Provincial Government on this and Alderman Ranger asked that the City write to the Minister of Municipal Affairs, the Minister of Environment, our M.L.A., the Lower Mainland Municipal Association and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.
