Back row Ieft to right, are, Gary Pawluk, KINSMEN INVITATIONAL TOURNEY Duchess Park is top team The 7th annual Kinsmen Invitational High School Basketball Tournament was staged at Caledonia Senior Secondary Schoo! over the weekend, with teams from as far away as Vancouver and Prince George com- peting. The-opening game of the tournament, played Friday afternoon, was a rather one sided affair, the Caledonia J.V.8 losing to a bigger, stronger Dawson Creek team 93-20.The second game saw Prince Rupert . down mats’ Mount’ vue The Caledonia, Rermodes: Kitimat’s': Mount’ Elizabeth") od ard_place -in the’ team 71-59, and in the third game, Duchess Park ef Prince George, ranked 9th im B.C., and the eventual tournament winners, had little trouble in disposing of - Houston 110-17, The host Caledonia Ker- modes didn’t see action until game no.4, in which they defeated Magee of Van- couver by -the narrow margin of 54-52, rounding out Friday's action. Game 5, at 9:00 A.M, Saturday, saw Kitimat rebound from their earlier defeat to coast to an casy b4- 31 vielory over Houston. Vancouver's Magee was just as impressive in game 6, as they rolled over the Caledonia J.V.s 87-15. Game no.7 pitted the host Kermodes against Dawson Creek, and Dawson Creok eked out a 68-60 win over the home town Caledonia squad, to drop the Kermodes to the loser's side of the tourney. In Game 9, fovered Duchess Park got 2 tongher time than they figured from Prince Rupert, and barely defeated them 80-78 to win themselves a psot in the final. Game no.) was a hatile between Houston and the Caledonia J.V.s for 7th and 8th spot overall. It was a hard fought affair that finally saw the Caledonia J.V.s emerge victorious 46- 41, Game'l0, for 4th and 6th: spot, was one of the most exciting of the weekend. Magee of Vancouver, and Kitimat were tiled at the end of regulation time, to set the stage for an overtime session. One of Pronovost's goals came with the Flames playing a man short. Elsewhere, the Penguins shaded Vancouver Canucks 6-5, Boston Bruins beat New York Rangers 4-1, Toronto Maple Leafs defeated Detroit Red Wings 4-2, St. ‘ Louls Blues tied New York islanders 2-2, Bulfalo Sabres downed Minnesota North Stars §-2 and Colorado Rockies topped Chicago Black Hawks 5-1. The Most Valuable Payer of the entire com- gétition was Mike Suderman @f the tournament winning Duchess Park squad. All in all, the 7th annual Kinamen Invitational High School Basketball Tour- gament was reasonably successful.
