Holst in his address stated that the Interior locals should make sure that a proper re- lationship is maintained be- tween wages paid by the in- dustry at the Coast and in the Interior. The present wage gap, he suggested, must be closed as soon as possible in future negotiations. He pointed out that the In- terior is now cutting more than fifty percent of B.C.’s sawn lumber and there is no justification for. workers be- ing paid less than at the Coast. To accomplish this, he stat- ed, the Union must make a greater effort to organize in the low wage areas. He concluded by saying, “We must also make a great- er effort to educate our mem- bers. Many of our recent or younger members do not know the sacrifices that were made to build the IWA and we have a responsibility to acquaint them with the his- tory of our Union.” Other important resolutions dealt with at the meeting in- cluded: : The annual delegated meet- ing procedure, working fore- men, union solicitor, pension plan, compensation pension, exoneration of dues, sub-con- tractor, and travel time.
