June 23rd, 1975 Mr. Drappier then stated his firm would be more than happy to work with the Council on the type of canopy that would be desirable for the downtown area. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That representatives of Neon Products Ltd., be requested to meet with the Building & Protection Committee to establish some overall guidelines with respect to canopies in the downtown business area of the City. Carried. Alderman Traboulay then commended the new owners of the Golden Ears Hotel for their efforts in imprcving the front of that building. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: From the City Clerk, June i2th, 1975, advising that at the regular Council meeting of June 9th, 1975, a resolution proposed by Alderman Laking and seconded by Alderman Keryluk to blacktop the surface of Victoria Drive on a shared basis with the District of Coquitlam, that was accepted as a Notice of Motion for consideration at the vune 16th, 1975 meeting; however, it was deferred at the meeting larc mentioned for presentation at this +‘me. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the proposal of the City to flushcoat its half of Victoria Drive be reconsidered and that it be agreed to blacktop the surface instead on a shared basis with the District of Coquitlam. Carried. Aldermen Ranger, Mabbett and Thompson voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger stated he was opposed because: 1. with the small amount of development that has taken place along that stretch cf road cuts would have to be made in the surface to provide new services when required; 2. plans for the development of Burke Mountain are not known; 3. blacktopping will result in a speeding problem. Alderman Ranger further stated the view that fiushcoatang would provide an adequate surface for the passage of cars, and commented that Victoria Drive is a low-priority road because the traffic is very iisht.
