Propos- als were submitted from many of the non- profit and retail] galleries; the Guild's first choice was April to lead up to the Made of Clay Sale Event held at Per- formance Works April 30, May 1 & 2 which is what we have been allocated. That is the good news! The great news is that Granville Island would like our ex- hibit te begin as soon as the space renowa- tions are complete. which could be by the Showcase weekend of March 12!! Sa, not only will we be able to advertise the Made of Clay Sale Event, thereby in- creasing traffic and admission dollars, but also the Raku-U, which will also increase fundraising dollars!! There has nol been time yet to Chink about the cura- torial aspeces of this exhibit but the theme will be developed around the participants of the Made of Clay Sale Event. GALLERY NEWS 1909 started out with less consign. ment sales than last year for the month of January, down 9% but 5% higher than ourtarected amount. February sales seem to be about on target at the mid-point in the month. The exhibit, Te Afakers, has given ihe Gallery a very strong first show of the year, Darlene Nairne and Linda Doherty set up the exhibit beautifully. The individual pieces submitted by par- lictpants in lhe Made of Clay book are very strong: the overall look of the ex- hibit is subthe and each piece is able i siand oul on its own. Thisexhibit will continue until March 3rd, when it will be taken down and replaced with new maiolica work by Julia Maika. Season to Taste, a serving of Spring, will include richly decorated plat- lers, pasta bowls and chili shakers, to name a few of the wonderful pieces that will be included in the exhibit.
