V3C 2A8 Attention: Mr. Tony Chong, P. Eng., City Engineer, Re: 6" check valves = Meridian Industrial Park Dear Mr. Chong: writing permitted to i water lines to the property line without the use of "check valves!'. We have had our Consultant Check with a number of Municipalities including Burnaby, Richmond, surrey, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, New Westminster and Port Moody. Only Port Moody require a 6" check valve in the road allowance. - I understand that Surrey (who hava more by-laws than I can deal with and as a consequence, we do not do any work in Surrey) re- quires a check valve on fire lines and domastic line. These check valves are installed on the private property. However, if the fire line is not utilized, then the check valve is not re- quired. There are a number of reasons for this request as sat out below: 1. A 6" line and shutoff valve is more costly than a domestic service without the additional cost of “check valves", (approximately $900, 00). 6" check valves are not stocked in Vancouver and delivery is anywhere from three to five weeks. some of the changes in the our desire to install 6 most if not all of the sites to be subdivided, whether or not they are ultimately used. In some cases they are not requirad as the building size does not require sprinklers, however, on larger sites the building may he expanded in the future and then fire lines may be required. Wa are presently working on plans for an addition to the first building we built in the Park and fire lines will now be necessary, 46
