RE: Application for Approval of Licenced Premises at
2614. Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, B.C.
. (Presently PoCo Cabana Discotheque)

As requested in your letter of 30 MAY 79, the following is information
which should be of some assistance to your Council.

At present, the discotheque is virtually no problem in regards to conduct
and movement of patrons.

Ai this time in the downtown area of Port Coquitlam, there are seven
licenced premises within a two block radius of Shaughnessy St. and
McAllister Ave. They are so situated that the pedestrian traffic remains
generally on the sidewalks when leaving respective premises. Should a
further. liquor licence be requested and granted for a discotheque across
the arterial street from the Golden Ears Hotel where there is dancing as
.well, various problems will be encountered, from patrons of either estab-
lishment crossing Shaughnessy St. to the other establishments, as impeding
.normal traffic flow on Shaughnessy St., patrons consuming liquor outside
premises, and a general congregation of patrons on Shaughnessy St. after
the hotel premises close with patrons drinking at the discotheque from the
. hotel until the discotheque closes, which would be able to serve liquor, for
-one hour longer than the hotel. .

The added patrols and investigations which would result from the hours of

operation and closing time of licenced premises, activities of patrons on

this office would minimize the policing of the community at that time

period/as the liquor establishments are presently occupying the majority
4 attention for enforcement at that time of night.
