Art auction gets rave reviews ‘The idea is that everyone wins,’ says potter Patsy O’Connell By JENNIFER LANG A GROUP of local artists who ban- ded together to bring the Terrace Art Gallery its first-ever silent art auc- tion says everyone involved has came oul a winner. The month-long charitable event, held alongside a pottery exhibit in November called Hands in Clay, has raised $450 for the Terrace Churches Food Bank. Patsy O’Connell, a Potters of Ter- race member and one of the organi- zers of the Artists for Action Silent Auclion, said the event went very well, even though it hadn’t been tried before. “Now that we have some of the mechanics worked out, future events of this type will run more smoothly and be more user- “friendly,” O’Con- nell says. “The idea is that everyone wins.” Works put up for bid were dona- ted by local artists and businesses, which gave them the opportunity to support a good cause — and have their work shown in a gallery setting, she says. Patrons got great deals on original art and donate to a registered local charity at the same time, she adds. The art gallery came oul ahead, too, as visilors returned to check their bids. The gallery also received a portion of the sale price, which in turn supports gallery activities. But, most important of all, the food bank received the bulk of the proceeds in order to help supply food to the community’s most needy folks, O'Connell, who’s grateful to everyone who participated, hopes to do it all again next year, Sign up for Smithers guitar workshop IF YOU WANT to be part of a relaxing weekend of fun, camaraderie and folk music learning guitar tech- niques fram some of the best musicians in Canada, you need to apply now. “Registration, spols are already. filling: for the 2003 Bulkley’ Valley Guitar Camp Aug. 18-23, organi- zer Peter Haines says, adding people in the north- west can no longer wait unti} the last minule to sign up.
